PLATFORM ENGINEER
As a Platform Engineer you will work as part of a new Edge Platform team who are tasked with designing, building and operating a new DNS Resolver platform which will be critical infrastructure supporting the core of the internet globally. This platform running on private cloud will be the cornerstone of our DNS operations and will be responsible for powering our prestigious UK registry, our cyber security product Protective PDNS and more.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join at the ground floor of its technology transformation and shape the platform that you will eventually manage and become a true expert in. As the platform evolves, you will transition from the design phase to the critical stage of managing and operating it in a multi-environment production system, replacing outdated legacy services along the way.
· Your expertise and dedication will contribute directly to the success of our ambitious project and ensure seamless integration of modern technologies and capabilities. If you are passionate about building robust, scalable, and cutting-edge platforms, this is the role for you.
· Expert knowledge of Linux, focused on automation, building out from bare metal and performance tuning. Able to squeeze every bit of performance out of the servers our Edge Platform is running on.
· Advanced knowledge in virtualized environments with hands-on experience on Linux/KVM Hypervisors. Working knowledge of VMware.
· A deep understanding of security. You know your way around Linux kernels and how to tweak them to build extremely secure environments.
· Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling (Ansible/Terraform/Salt).
· Proficient in utilising enterprise-grade solutions like Satellite, DataDog, CheckMK, Zabbix etc.
· Some scripting experience in languages like Python, Perl, or Bash.
· Proficient in hardware management, including handling hardware racking, vendor coordination, and equipment replacement.
· Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, load balancing, firewalling, TCP/IP stack, subnetting, and LAN separation.
· Experience with containerisation tools such as Docker a plus.
· Knowledge for Cloud Platforms such as AWS a plus.
Adheres to ITIL best practices and possesses an understanding of ISO compliance.
