Job Description

A Software Project/Development Manager opportunity has arisen within a leading Software and Service organisation based in Chelmsford. This is an exciting new position that has arisen due to significant growth within their Insurance Division. Salary of £60-80K DOE, plus benefits.

The role:

As Software Project/Development Manager, your role will include leading a team of 7-10 analysts, .NET developers and test engineers in all software development activities.

The Development Manager will work with the business stakeholders and project managers to ensure that the work is appropriately resourced, planned, tracked, architected, designed, built, documented, reviewed and unit tested to meet the company's highest (ISO 9001 Certified) standards and committed timescales and budget.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building and leading highly performing software development teams, from recruitment of top calibre people, through motivation and mentoring, to innovation in tools, technology and development process.


It is essential that you have the following skills and experience:-

  • Drive and Enthusiasm necessary to achieve results

  • Experience of managing software development teams through full SDLC: +5 years

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of complex Legacy architecture fast.

  • Experience in delivery of both desktop and web applications

  • Ability to challenge established design patterns and estimation processes

  • Able to take ownership of tasks and deliver solutions

  • Experience of implementing modern development practices, such as dev ops, continuous integration, build and test automation

  • Ability to recognise customer & colleague needs and provide a consistently high level of service that exceeds all expectations

  • Ability to work under pressure and identify and prioritise key issues, in a dynamic environment

  • Strong commercial awareness

  • Ability to investigate and analyse issues objectively and make sound decisions that maximise opportunities for the business

  • A record of developing and building productive working relationships internally and externally to deliver highest quality and value for customers

  • Software development background, ideally using Microsoft technologies (.net/SQL)

  • Exposure to the impact of infrastructure on solutions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels, able to convey and justify complex and technical messages in a confident and engaging way, to both a technical and non-technical audience.

Ideally you will have previous experience within a similar position within the Insurance or Reinsurance space. As Software Project/Development Manager any MS qualifications and experience of MNNM or SAO are highly beneficial.
